Face Off: RFID vs. Wireless Sensor Networks
Program
Radio Frequency Identification systems have become a strongly growing market as
major users of logistics chain automation push for its adoption. Meanwhile, the
hot new technology of wireless sensor networks has also attracted a lot of
attention and venture capital investment. Both of these short range wireless
markets are embryonic and their technologies are evolving, which makes it
difficult for customers and investors to distinguish them. Are the technologies
for RFID and wireless sensor networks different or related? Is RFID just subset
of wireless sensor networks, or is it the other way around?
And are they addressing individual or related markets -- or are they really
just specific component technologies in an overall systems market?
Come hear our panel of local CEOs participating in each of these new
technologies debate where their industries fit, how they relate and how the
markets for these products will evolve. Our panelists will be:
-
John Crossno, CEO, SAVR Communications, a manufacturer of RFID
equipment and a subsidiary of an industrial automation company;
-
Charlie Steuwe, VP/GM, Wireless Monitoring Solutions, a division of
$2 billion Crane Company and a provider of complete wireless sensor
networks;
-
Michael Sheriff, CEO, AirGate Technologies, a provider of both RFID
and wireless sensor network systems.
