On January 16, 2003, the M.I.T. Enterprise Forum of Dallas-Fort Worth, Inc.
will present a case study of a successful biotechnology company that leveraged
discoveries from The University of Texas at Dallas (UT-Dallas). The program will
be at the UT-Dallas Conference Center beginning with a reception and light
buffet at 5 p.m., with the program at 6:15 p.m. The cost is a donation of $35,

The successful company to be presented is Macrocyclics, Inc. a successful1993
spin-off from the University of Texas at Dallas (UT-Dallas). Macrocyclics offers
a variety of specialty chemicals to the biomedical research community and to
pharmaceutical companies developing new targeted diagnostic and therapeutic
agents. The Company has more than 200 leading research institutions and firms
around the world as customers. From its genesis in making a market for novel
compounds used in early-stage research, Macrocyclics' goal is to see its
products used in next-generation pharmaceuticals and diagnostics.
Panelists for the event will be Dean Sherry, Ph.D., Macrocyclics founder; Dan
Rippy, chief executive officer of Macrocyclics; and a panel of experts who will

Dr. Sherry, Macrocyclics' founder, is professor of Chemistry and Radiology at
the University of Texas at Dallas and University of Texas Southwestern Medical
Center, respectively. He received his B.S. in Chemistry from Wisconsin State
University at La Crosse in 1967 and his Ph.D. in Physical/Inorganic Chemistry
from Kansas State University in 1971.
Dan Rippy, Macrocyclics' C.E.O., has over ten years of corporate experience
with Johnson & Johnson, Bristol Myers Squibb, and other firms. Mr. Rippy
received his B.A. from Macalester College in 1989 and his M.B.A. from Columbia
Business School in 1993. He is the author of Sizing Up a Start-Up, a career
guide based on his own start-up experience with a Kleiner-Perkins-backed
start-up in Seattle, Washington.

Presenters:
Dr. Dean Sherry, Macrocyclics' founder, is professor of Chemistry at the
University of Texas at Dallas and is professor of Radiology at the University of
Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Sherry has over thirty years of academic
and research experience in fields related to magnetic resonance imaging and
nuclear medicine. He has authored over 200 scientific publications and has 22
patents to his name. He received his B.S. in Chemistry from Wisconsin State
University at La Crosse and his Ph.D. in Physical/Inorganic Chemistry from
Kansas State University. From 1971-1972, Dr. Sherry was an NIH post-doctoral
fellow at New Mexico State University. The recipient of numerous distinguished
university and regional awards, Dr. Sherry was recently named the Cecil and Ida
Green Honors Chair in Chemistry at the University of Texas at Dallas. He is a
regular keynote speaker at leading conferences and symposia focused on MRI,
nuclear medicine, and molecular imaging.
Dan Rippy, is our other presenter-Dan is Macrocyclics' C.E.O., and has over
ten years of corporate experience with Johnson & Johnson, Bristol Myers
Squibb, and other firms. In corporate development roles, focusing on mergers
& acquisitions, licensing deals, and strategic planning, Mr. Rippy has
evaluated life science transactions with an aggregate market capitalization of
over $20 billion. At J&J, he was instrumental in developing a strategic
alliance with Integra Life Sciences for skin substitutes, a $50 million
transaction, and obtained J&J corporate approval for a $750 million
acquisition. At BMS, Dan conducted due diligence for BMS' purchase of Calgon-Vestal
Labs from Merck, a $263 million transaction. Dan has served on pharmaceutical
product marketing teams with aggregate sales of over $2 billion. Dan received
his B.A. from Macalester College and his M.B.A. from Columbia Business School.

Naresh Lakhanpal is global practice director of products and services for
Deloitte & Touche's Technology, Media and Telecom Practice, Naresh oversees
the team of management professionals who provide professional services to
technology companies throughout the world with the goal of helping them succeed
in the ever changing business environment. Naresh is based in Dallas, Texas. He
holds an MBA degree from Amber University and a BS degree in Business
Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Panelists:
Robin Kral is Associate Director, Venture Development, UT Southwestern. Prior
to joining UTSW, Robin was with NPS Pharmaceuticals, in Salt Lake City, where he
held positions of increasing responsibility, initially as a researcher, then in
market research and business development. At the time he left to join UT
Southwestern, he was Director of Business Development. He is a listed inventor
on several U.S. patents, and an author on several scientific publications and
presentations. He has both Bachelor's and M.S. degrees in biology from Texas
Tech University, and an M.B.A., from the University of Utah.
Robert Mart is Director of Research and Development with Molnlycke Health
Care, Inc. where he built a completely new BARRIER® Brand Research and
Development organization after the acquisition of the business from Johnson
& Johnson. Prior to that, he was Product Director and then Director of
Strategic Marketing for Johnson & Johnson Medical, where he led and managed
the Strategic Marketing department for the $200 MM Vascular Access business. He
has a BS in Resource Management from Rutgers University and received an MBA with
honors from Baylor University.
Robert Bachman is President of USGT Investors Management Company, Inc., the
general partner of USGT Investors, L.P., a Dallas-based investment bank/merchant
bank. USGT works closely with private equity funds worldwide, and brings to the
funds potential investments in privately-held companies in a number of
industries. Mr. Bachman has a BA degree from Bowdoin College, and an MBA degree
from Columbia University in New York City.
